Anzalduas International Bridge

“This is an exciting day for South Texas. This project is a culmination of a lot of hard work by many people. We feel that it is going to benefit our economy for the entire region in trade and commerce with Mexico. I can hardly wait to use it myself. This was a collaborative effort between the cities of McAllen, Hidalgo and Mission. The bridge will connect the South McAllen and Mission international trade areas to the west end of Reynosa, where many maquiladoras and other cross-border businesses are located. This will help to facilitate just-in-time delivery, allowing companies to keep inventory costs down, progress trade with Monterrey, (because it is a quicker and safer route), and it will be the most efficient way for business traffic from northern Mexico to reach the United States. The bridge is also expected to create hundreds of new jobs.

Construction is well under way on both sides of the Anzalduas International Bridge, which is set to open in June 2009. Work on the U.S. side of the project began in June, while the Mexican side kicked off construction in August, according to Mexican and U.S. bridge officials. The bridge will cost a total of about $168 million for both sides — $99 million on the U.S. side and $69 million in Mexico
